Tyler cab company saves 10.5k annually with autogas
TYLER — Taxi Cab Company of Tyler reduced its fuel costs by $10,578 in 2012 by running five vehicles on clean propane autogas. A cab and transportation company serving Tyler for nearly 25 years, Taxi Cab Company of Tyler first switched to American-made autogas two years ago and cites numerous reasons for the switch—including autogas’ affordability and eco-friendliness.
“I chose propane autogas because of the low cost of fuel, reasonable price of infrastructure, the safety factor and the positive environmental benefits ” said Jamal Moharer, President of Taxi Cab Company of Tyler. The company’s autogas vehicles—which include two taxis, two vans and a shuttle bus—are primarily used for private, medical and public transportation services.
Propane autogas, the most widely used alternative fuel in the world, is ideal for light- to medium-duty vehicles. Fleets that convert to autogas save an average of 30-50 percent on fuel costs, and autogas vehicles produce less greenhouse gas emissions and harmful pollutants than gasoline-powered vehicles. Because autogas is a cleaner-burning fuel, many fleets also report reduced maintenance needs and extended engine life.
“Propane autogas is a safe, reliable and inexpensive choice for vehicle fleets,” said Jackie Mason, Educational & Marketing Director for the Propane Council of Texas. “With our Fueling Texas campaign, we’re spreading the word about this clean, economical, domestically-produced and widely available fuel to help more Texas businesses save on fuel costs and contribute to clean air.”
With more than 700 propane autogas fueling stations across the state, propane autogas is widely available. In addition to Tyler’s public refueling station, Taxi Cab Company of Tyler has built a private refueling station at their headquarters. Many companies with autogas vehicle fleets choose to install their own station due to the refueling infrastructure’s affordability and easy installation process.
Taxi Cab Company of Tyler joins many hundreds of other Texas vehicle fleets making the switch to propane autogas, including the Texas Department of Transportation, multiple private organizations, many municipalities and more than 75 school districts across the Lone Star State.
Propane Autogas: Fueling Texas is a public awareness campaign that educates Texans about the benefits of running fleet vehicles and equipment on clean-burning, domestically produced propane autogas. The campaign features a series of statewide autogas presentations and road shows to provide fleet operators, drivers and community members a hands-on experience with clean autogas technology.
